Some Thoughts On Viet Nam Movies

Like no other war that came before it, perhaps with the exception of World War II, Viet Nam has been so well captured for all the world to see, through documentaries and theatrical films. Viet Nam, though it may not be classified as a war, but merely a conflict, even today, some forty years later, still has a stranglehold on our consciousness, like a dark secret from our past. Viet Nam seems to represent a change in our history, almost as if whatever came before it is somehow separate from what came after. Before Viet Nam, America was a dream or utopia, full of vigor and patriotism. After Viet Nam, America seemed to wake from this dream. With subject matter far too powerful to ignore, it's no surprise to see so many of America's greatest directors attempt to tackle this controversial topic. And here is a list of my favorites.

Apocalypse Now

I don't consider Rambo or Apocholypse now to be vietnam war movies. They are both fantasy tales.
